Abide Therapeutics is seeking a motivated and experienced toxicologist to lead efforts in preclinical safety in support of the clinical and preclinical stage programs in the Abide Portfolio. Abide’s mission is to develop innovative medicines that target serine hydrolases, one of the largest enzyme classes in nature with validated, but mostly untapped therapeutic potential. Our lead program targets the enzyme monoacylglycerol lipase (MGLL) and is currently in Phase 2 clinical development in neurologic indications. Abide is a privately held biotechnology company. This position will be based in our San Diego, California laboratory.

In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for designing and overseeing the execution of non-GLP and GLP safety studies for all programs. The candidate will participate as a member of the Abide Project Teams across all stages of research and development. The scientist will work closely with external consultants and contract organizations to support the toxicology needs of Abide including review of safety data, regulatory document preparation, and will lead regulatory agency interactions on non-clinical safety issues.

 

Job responsibilities:

  • Lead nonclinical safety evaluation of Abide’s discovery and development portfolio to enable IND submissions and support clinical development programs
  • Coordinate, design, and monitor GLP and non-GLP toxicology and safety pharmacology studies performed at contract research organizations (CROs)
  • Review, interpret and summarize nonclinical safety data and reports from CROs and interact with external consultants as needed
  • Serve as toxicology representative on project teams and communicate critical toxicology data to management
  • Serve as the toxicology interface with external organizations and experts including Health Authorities
  • Participate in selection of CROs, cost negotiations and preparation of nonclinical safety budgets
  • Prepare and edit non-clinical regulatory documents (e.g. CTA, IND, IB and briefing documents)

 

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • PhD in Toxicology (or relevant field) and/or DVM with biotechnology or pharmaceutical drug discovery/development experience
  • Experience in designing, monitoring and interpreting regulated nonclinical safety studies executed internally and/or at CROs
  • Experience participating on cross-functional drug development teams and supporting regulatory submissions
  • Experience with small molecules
  • Experience with CNS mechanisms is a benefit
  • Deep knowledge of FDA and ICH guidance documents
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Familiarity with pharmacokinetic and ADME principles
  • Some travel required to CRO partners
