Abide Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist to contribute to the identification and development of novel small molecule drugs targeting the serine hydrolase enzyme family.  Abide’s mission is to develop innovative medicines that target serine hydrolases, one of the largest enzyme classes in nature with validated, but mostly untapped therapeutic potential. Abide is a privately held biotechnology company. This position will be based in our San Diego, California laboratory.

The successful candidate will design and synthesize custom building blocks for enumeration into potential drug candidate molecules directed towards inhibition of serine hydrolases.  This chemist, working closely with other Abide chemists, will identify and develop robust and scalable synthetic routes for the preparation of multigram quantities of molecules with orthogonal functional groups. Additionally, this chemist will be responsible for demonstrating the feasibility and versatility of prepared building blocks as medicinal chemistry starting points prior to transfer to an external contract research organization.  The chemist will perform work independently, use databases and information tools to keep abreast of the medicinal chemistry field of interest, and contribute to patent applications and publications. 


Experience and education requirements

  • BS or MS in Organic Chemistry with 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience in organic syntheses
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Outstanding problem solving skills, troubleshooting skills, and organization skills
  • Proficient in computers and software such as ChemDraw, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
